WHO Says Up to 45% of Dementia Cases Could Be Prevented
The World Health Organization (WHO) has released new guidance stating that up to 45% of dementia cases could be prevented or delayed by addressing a number of modifiable risk factors throughout life.
According to the WHO, maintaining regular physical activity, controlling high blood pressure and diabetes, avoiding smoking, reducing excessive alcohol consumption, staying socially active, and protecting hearing health can significantly reduce the risk of developing dementia later in life.
The organization has urged governments to invest in public awareness, early diagnosis, and healthy ageing programmes as the global number of people living with dementia continues to rise.
