India's Retail Inflation Climbs Above RBI Target

India's retail inflation rose to 4.38% in June, crossing the Reserve Bank of India's 4% target for the first time in more than a year. According to official data, the increase was mainly driven by higher fuel and food prices amid rising global energy costs and weather-related supply disruptions.

Economists said that higher transportation costs and food prices have pushed overall inflation upward, increasing pressure on household budgets. However, most analysts believe the RBI is unlikely to raise interest rates immediately and will continue to monitor inflation and global developments before taking further policy action.

The latest inflation figures come at a time when India is balancing strong domestic economic activity with growing global uncertainties, including volatile oil prices and geopolitical tensions that continue to influence international markets.
