IMF Lowers Global Growth Forecast, Warns of Economic Risks
The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has lowered its global economic growth forecast for 2026 to 3.0%, citing continued geopolitical tensions, higher energy prices, trade fragmentation, and uncertainty surrounding the global economy. The revised projection is slightly lower than the IMF's previous forecast released earlier this year.
According to the IMF, the conflict in the Middle East has pushed energy prices higher, increasing inflationary pressures across many countries. The organization also warned that disruptions to global trade and financial markets could slow investment and consumer spending if uncertainties persist.
Despite the weaker outlook for 2026, the IMF expects the global economy to recover modestly in 2027, with growth projected to reach 3.4%. The organization urged governments to maintain sound fiscal and monetary policies while strengthening international cooperation to improve economic resilience against future shocks.
