European Union Orders Google to Open AI Features to Rivals

The European Commission has directed Google to make several Android and AI-related features accessible to competing companies under the Digital Markets Act (DMA). The move is intended to increase competition and reduce the dominance of large technology companies in the artificial intelligence and search markets.

Under the new rules, eligible rival AI assistants will be able to access selected Android functions, while Google will also be required to share certain anonymized search-related data with qualifying competitors under strict privacy safeguards.

Google has expressed concerns that the new requirements could affect user privacy and cybersecurity. However, European regulators say the measures are designed to promote innovation, improve consumer choice, and create a more competitive digital ecosystem.
